Riccardo Guarneri - Una nuova Stagione - Thu 16 February 2017 - Sat 01 April 2017
The figure and works of Riccardo Guarneri (Florence 1933) are associated with the season of the so-called Analytical Painting, or Painting Painting, or New Painting, the trend that during the Seventies investigated on the possibility of resistance and existence of painting as a current tool, in a context of strong ideological rejection of tradition. Today that historical moment has been widely revalued nationally and internationally and subsequently, also Guarneri’s work has. Guarneri in those years was one of the protagonists (moreover, an exhibition, one year ago, at Progetto Arte Elm’s, pointed out his nearness with Claudio Verna and Claudio Olivieri during the Seventies), but this characterization must not make us forget that an artist’s work – and Guarneri has widely exceeded half a century’ s activity – does not limit to a short lucky season, during which the artist is consistent with society and its taste, but it starts and may go on far beyond that moment, with equally important results and sometimes more complex and refined ones, since he is totally free from the “constraints” established by a trend, a theory, an ideology.
That is why, Progetto Arte ELM decided to introduce a selection of 16 and the latest works of the artist, while the curator analyses derivations, variants, reflections, returns and forward flights of his whole individual path in an historical essay published in the catalogue issued on that occasion.
